Tom Bates recently reached his 82nd birthday, not 85th!
Kathy is leaving for Guatemala on April 20, for 10 days, to help with the on-going water and sanitation project.
Niel said the 2023 Auction committee will meet again on April 19th, at Kathy's house at 4:30 pm
Tom said that baby shower gifts are welcome at Fr. Hector's shelter for a soon arriving baby. He is still collecting hygiene products for the fall.
Peter F. said that any monies donated to the RI Disaster Fund in April will go to Ukraine.
Maggie said that two WNMU applicants were selected. out of seven, but all applicants will receive $1,000. each.
She also said that two high school applicants were selected, out of four, but all will receive $1,500. each. A very generous Rotary member is providing for the additional scholarships over and above those that would normally be awarded.
There will be a board meeting following today's meeting, and a
Foundation board meeting next week.
Program:
Mayor Ken Ladner and Allyson Siwik.
Ladner spoke of Silver City accomplishments this past year, including Ridge Road and Little Walnut Projects, water tank cleaning, and sewer lines. The Rec Center and the City Hall projects are not yet designed. The new City Hall will be in the building that used to be occupied by Washington Federal on Hudson Street.
Siwik spoke about the Silver City Anti-Litter Campaign, "Pick it up and Toss no Mas". She said it is necessary to "make it socially unacceptable to litter," and the campaign is working toward that goal, using, among other things, a video to be shown at Silco Theater and other venues.
Will Hawkins asked that the video used by Siwik be sent to him so he could forward it to the various schools.
Siwik said that recyclables can be taken to Silver City Recycles at 305 South Bullard St., on the 2nd and last Saturdays of the month from 12-2 pm (winter) and 10 am-2 pm (summer).
