Sunny K. Just had cataract surgery this morning, now at hotel in Las Cruces.
PETS has one more session this Saturday.

Tom: Hygiene project.  Tom and Jim spent the rest of Grant money on more
yesterday. Gave thank you notes to various dentists who contributed supplies. Silver Smiles (Shelby) said they are always happy to support Rotary because they receive a thank you from us.  On the left, nurse Jeannette from Silver checking out supplies received. She is mostly at Jose Barrios, but also does district coordinating.

 

Niel: A reminder that next week there will be a vote on the revised by-laws and constitution.

At last week's board meeting we voted to have a fundraiser-Car-Dog wash on May 6th. 

 

Jim: Looking at bring in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts to wash the dogs, and find a suitable location for the car wash.

 

We need a nominating committee for the new board members, to assist Carlos and myself. Ray volunteered.

 

Kathy: Breaking news in Guatemala.  Buena Vista project received additional $4000. from a club in Mexico. Because it's a district grant, RI 80%, so total is now $7000. to be used for a new water system and for  additional health issues. It seems that word of mouth saying "what a great group of people from Silver City working" really paid off.

 

Maria: Idea for our Centennial.  A series of books about economics (14 in all) written for 6th and 7th graders, but adults would benefit also.

 

Steve: Reminding everyone of the Toastmasters meeting on zoom every Tuesday at 7 a m! He told us that Toastmasters is ideal for people who have a fear of public speaking - and that's pretty much all of us. He said that a lot of people at a funeral would rather be in the box than having to give the eulogy.  Email zoom link sent -please request it.

 

Anacaite:  Interested in starting a "Grandmothers's for Peace" group. Please contact me if interested. 

 

Maggie: Because of spring break, WNMU will be closed March 14.

 

Tom: Introduced Enrique Valenzuela, our speaker, and explained that Doug Winter regrettably could not attend.

 

Enrique began by saying what a huge help Doug has been with assisting the migrant situation on the Juarez/El Paso border. He then spoke of the programs offered in the State of Chihuahua, and showed slides demonstrating how the migrant population has increased.
