President
Art Thorn presided.
Jim Callender led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Tom Bates gave the invocation.
Ray Goellner led the recitation of the Four-Way Test.
Guests: Raul Turrieta, Chief Deputy in the County Assessor's Office
Announcements: Art told us that Sunny Kellerman had put together an obituary for Kate Watson to be used at the upcoming District Conference memorial for deceased Rotarians.
Jim Callender reported that Jerry Ouzts's husband Glenn is in the hospital with pneumonia.
Art discussed the Epic Day of Service project to be undertaken by the club on May 17. It appears that we will be participating in clean-up efforts organized by Silver City's Toss No Mas anti-litter campaign. Mark Richard is looking into details. Art also reminded us that Give Grandly is looking for volunteers to help with set-up and organization of its event on May 3. Other projects discussed included support for Millie's Assisted Living and some kind of participation in the Tour of The Gila starting on April 26. One possibility for the latter is the resurrection of the Kids' Bike Rodeo, which we used to host during the Tour of the Gila in cooperation with the Kiwanis Club and other sponsors. We still have a substantial number of children's bike helmets that could be distributed at such an event.
Jim Callender brought up the nominations for Sonny Brown awards to local businesses to be given at the District Conference. He suggested that we nominate First Savings Bank and he indicated that he would gather the necessary information for the nomination.
Raul Turrieta told us that County Assessor's Office is in the process of sending out this year's Real estate Valuation Notices. The valuations form the basis for real estate tax assessments. He explained that, under State law, valuations cannot increase by more than 3% from the previous year in the absence of modifications to the property involved or a change in ownership. He told us that any appeal or claim for exemption must be filed within 30 days. Real

estate tax exemptions may be available for veterans, heads of households, or some senior citizens.
Art told us that Ray Goellner had earned a Paul Harris Fellowship and he presented Ray with the Paul Harris pin (picture at left).
Program:
The meeting was billed as a Club Assembly, but Ray Goellner gave a report on his committee's exploration of future meeting places for the club. He explained that there are several options, including the possibility of remaining in the Sunset Room at the University, using the Bowling Alley, the HMS Conference Room or The Hearth (formerly the First Presbyterian Church). The latter two would require catering or brown-bag lunches. The option of going to the Hospital appears to be out because the facilities there cannot be counted on to be available on a regular basis. If a catering option is used, we could include the lunch cost in our dues. There was considerable discussion of he various options, but no conclusion was reached.
The meeting was adjourned shortly after 1 pm.
