Tuesday, Jun 28, 2022
Demotion Party at 5:30 pm at the Falleys

Zoom Attendees: Sunny Kellerman (PDG)
Other Guests: Linda Lowrance, Clara Khan, Tom Hester, Semana
McDonald and Olivia (Niel's wife and daughter), Evelyn Yu (visiting from Dallas), and Levi Si, who will be starting teaching at WNMU), guests of Tom Bates, and Lee Zasloff (recently moved to Silver City).

Announcements:
Jim Callender presided over the meeting.
Jim reminded everyone that next week will be Bill Harrison's 100th birthday, complete with Bill's favorite carrot cake, and with Mayor Ken Ladner presenting Bill with the proclamation that makes June 23rd "Bill Harrison Day" as approved by the town council. Harrison has celebrated many of his birthdays with the Rotary club.

Jim also said that after today's meeting the board will have its final meeting of the Rotary year.  The new board members for next year are welcome to attend. The Foundation board will meet next week.

Niel McDonald said that the next Auction Committee meeting , at 4:30 will be on 6/29/22, not 6/22/22, at Kathy's house at 4:30.

Kathy said the next RFE meeting will be Monday, July 6, 4 p.m. at her house, and that one more host family is needed. The discussion will concern the possible  itinerary for RFE people arriving in October. There will be 11 people in total, four couples, plus 3 singles. Suggestions for entertainment are needed for three days, plus transportation, a potluck on arrival day, and they can be speakers on Tuesday, October 18. They will be here Monday through Friday. Other suggestions included: City of Rocks, Campus museum, Silver City museum, downtown tour of art galleries, Cliff Dwellings.

Jim said because of the numbers of RFE participants, distances involved in travelling, and the increasing cost of gasoline, he and Art are looking for a 11 passenger van for transportation, as opposed to multiple cars being used.

A sign-up sheet for the 6/28 Demotion/Promotion Party was again passed around.

Kathy will be doing orientation today for two new members; Clara Khan and Linda Lowrance.

Kathy E. will be giving her presentation on July 26 about her Guatemala trip.

Happy Dollars
Niel: My wife saved the day, bringing the sign up sheet for the potluck on the 28th, the demotion party.
Jim: Our very own Carlos Lucero, made the National Top Banking Association list of "40 under 40".  Congratulations to Carlos!
Steve: Tom and guest Levi attended last week's Toastmasters meeting.
Tom: "Evelyn and Levi are staying with me until Evelyn goes back home to Dallas and Levi's wife arrives from China, and they find a place to live."
Peter H. had a birthday and an anniversary last week.
Laura: I've known our speaker a long time, and I've never heard the full ranching story!
Jim: We all send our best wishes to Sunny K., who is "under the weather" since her return from the RI convention in Houston.

Program:
Our speaker today was Judy Billings, who talked about her family's 146 years of ranching in Grant County.  In addition to her very interesting talk, Billings showed many family pictures going back 146 years.
