March 22nd 2022 Club Meeting

Announcements:
Jim Callender said that Sunny Kellerman is putting together an obituary for Dave Gershenson, a former Rotarian, who recently passed away. The obituary is to be used for the memorial service at the upcoming District Conference.
Jim also spoke in remembrance of the 6 golfers and their coach from Hobbs, who were all killed last week while returning from a golf tournament.
The fundraiser piano concert featuring the Silver City Piano Party, will be held in WNMU's Light Hall, at 7 p.m. on April 15, 2022. The Gila Hospital Auxillary is the beneficiary. Ray Goellner said the pianists are practicing and hope to be able to practice in Light Hall before the concert. Programs will be printed out. There are 191 seats available.
Tom Bates said that Doug Winter contacted an HBO representative about doing a documentary on Fr. Hector's shelters and his work. The rep and Doug spoke for 2 hours.
Steve Chavira reminded everyone of the continuing Toastmasters meetings on Wednesdays at 6-7 p.m. on Zoom. Anyone interested please contact him for the link.
Steve also gave an update on the Sonny Brown awards. Two businesses in Silver City will be nominated by our club: The Daily Press (Rotary member owned) and Morning Star Sports.
Peter Falley said anyone wishing to donate to support Ukraine
can go to rotary.org and press "donate." RI has said that 100% of all disaster response donations received between now and April 30 will be directed to Ukraine relief.
The Foundation meeting for today 3/22/22 is postponed.
The Auction committee meeting for 2023 will be today, March 22, 2022, at Kathy Eaton's house at 4:30 at 3713 Christian Flury.
Tom and Bev Westheimer are leaving for New Hampshire on the 27th of March, but will return to Silver City late fall
Meeting Notes:
Vladimir said he has three applicants for the high school scholarships. Will Hawkins said he will send out the information to the school counselors. Volunteers to help screen applicants are Karen and Steve.
Happy Dollars:
Niel gave a happy dollar for Sam Davidson, WNMU student and Rotarian, who has been accepted into UCLA Graduate school!
Program:
Karen Whitlock presented a very informative talk about Social Workers and all the varied facets of the work they do.
