President Carlos rang the bell at 12:15 and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, an invocation and the Four Way Test. He introduced our guests:

Rotary announcements:
- Leslie Bush announced that she spoke with Kate Watson, who’s doing well and sends regards to all.
- Jim Callender said the hygiene clinic for kids has been postponed to April. Drawstring bags are due soon from Morningstar. Sunny Kellerman reported that the items to go in the bags (toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, crayons, pencils and superballs) have arrived.
- Sunny mentioned that Rotarian Mark Abramson is moving to Silver City. He’ll stay with Tom Bates while he finds a place to live.
- Peter Falley said the District is holding a Zoom Crisis Management Drill on March 23 from 9-11 AM. All clubs are encouraged to have at least one representative attend. Art Thorn agreed to do so.
- Peter Falley reported that we received three scholarship applications by the February 29 deadline and only one of them was complete. After discussion, it was agreed that Peter will forward all three applications to the Board and the Board will consider next steps regarding awards at its next meeting (on March 19).
- Steve Chavira is looking for a program/public image partner to work with him – a “volunteer deputy person with gumption and sticktoitiveness”. Talk to Steve if you are willing to help!
- We are still working on lining up bulletin editors. The current endeavor is to find four people who will each take one meeting per month to write the bulletin. So far, Sunny Kellerman, Art Thorn and Steve Chavira have stepped forward.
Next Meetings:
NO MEETING NEXT TUESDAY – WNMU IS DARK FOR SPRING BREAK. INSTEAD, WE WILL HAVE A FELLOWSHIP MEETING AT OPEN SPACE BREWING AT 5:30PM ON FRIDAY, MARCH 15. Open Space Brewing is located at 11990 US Hwy 180 in Santa Clara.
Honorary Membership Special Presentation:
- President Carlos and President-Elect Art presented past president Peter Herzberg with a certificate and pin, making him an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Silver City. Peter and Tina will be moving to Durango soon.
Program:
Steve Chavira introduced our speakers, officers of a new 501(c)(3) organization in Grant County: Fight Like a Girl – and organization dedicated to supporting and empowering girls and thereby strengthening the workforce in our community. They have a small office in the old Rec Center and are building partnerships with local schools and other organizations to design curricula to empower women of all ages, physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. MaryAnn Sedillo read a recent Mayoral Proclamation about “Fight Like a Girl” and announced a day of special programs this Friday at WNMU (March 8 is International Women’s Day). Susan Mittelstad led us in a bilingual yoga breathing exercise, and we discussed various courses of use to girls, including job interviews, dress for success, building self-esteem, financial literacy and more. Great program!
Reminder: No meeting next week (ergo, no board meeting either). Join us on Friday, March 15 at Open Space Brewing for an evening of Rotary fellowship (and beer and food and nonalcoholic beverages).
