Announcements:
Sunny K. said that, according to the RI Council on Legislation's recent report, (1) there is no longer a requirement that Rotary club members reside in the same locale as their club and (long distance membership is now approved!) and (2) any active Rotarian can propose a person to be a Rotary member of any Rotary club.
 
Everyone should please consider making a donation of any amount to the Rotary Foundation Annual fund. Whatever gets donated now comes back to the district in three years for grants. Everyone is always asked to contribute $100. per year if possible.
 
July 15 & 16th, there will be a meeting of SCRYE (South Central Rotary Youth Exchange) in Albuquerque, at the Airport Sheraton. SCRYE covers and supports all of the Youth Exchange Programs in the member Districts and our Rotary District is hosting this SCRYE conference.  Let Sunny K. know if you are interested in attending.
 
Sunny K. announced an upcoming RI webinar on welcoming refugees to the US.  See Sunny if you'd like to hear the recorded webinar.
 
In today's Board meeting, we will be considering a project that would support food security in Grant County. Today's speaker will be covering this topic.
 
The Foundation Board meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, the 17th.
 
Steve Chavira said the Grant County Toastmasters Club is on the verge of chartering a club by June. Meetings continue via Zoom on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. The only requirement to join is to be 18 years old.
 
Niel: next Auction committee meeting will be May 31, at Kathy's house at 4.30.
 
Next week's Rotary meeting will NOT be at WNMU, because the cafeteria is closed. Jim at said he will check availability of Q's Bistro.  Stay tuned for an announcement regarding the location of our next meeting.

Cynthia: "R. J. and I are back from our honeymoon; I took a tumble and have to wear a boot for a month; and we are moving to Palm Springs." "I want to thank Jim for keeping an eye on our house while we were gone."
Lucy: "Peter H. had his ankle replacement and will be returning to Silver City after May 19th, to start rehab. He says hello."
Jim: "this is for Jai'Lin, to start her college fund."
 
Program:
Dave Chandler, the Executive Director for the Commons-Center for Food Sustainability, talked about Possible New and Future Projects for the Commons. He spoke of the "hard work done by the 65 volunteers and only two paid staff. Without them, the task would be impossible to feed the many, many people who need food assistance."
