Meeting Notes for February 15, 2022

Announcements:
Wendy Spurgeon reported that attendance at the Interact Zoom call was low (though one faculty member joined us and expressed considerable interest). It was generally agreed to re-launch this project with the new school year in the fall.
Niel McDonald passed out the secret ballots for his slate of officers for this coming year. The slate was as follows:

Nominations from the floor could be added to the ballots. Voting was done and ballots turned in to Leslie Bush. All nominated candidates were elected.
Kathy Eaton says she still has a truck full of warm clothing to go to Fr. Hector's shelters in Juarez, but to "please continue bringing in donations."
Lucy Falley asked for members to be Speaker Coordinators for April, May and June. Niel offered to take June. Later Sunny McFarren took May.
Tom Bates asked for volunteers to join at the Commons on 2/16/22 at 1:45 to pack hygiene products for the elementary schools. Rotary members are asked to bring Walmart and Food Basket plastic grocery bags for packaging the supplies.
Tom and Jim Callender will purchase the necessary items.
If Silver City is selected for the Rotary Friendship Exchange program, there are sufficient host families. More individuals will be needed to assist with transportation, outings, etc.
Ray Goellner said Satoko and her piano club are practicing almost daily for the upcoming piano club fundraiser, to be held on April 15, 2022, at Light Hall. Ticket prices were discussed, and it was agreed that the club would ask for a suggested donation of $10.00 per person. Ray will get pictures and brief bios of the five pianists for use in promotional materials and the program.
The new club website, using Club Runner is now up. The address is the same as before:
www.silvercityrotary.org. Member login is in the upper right-hand corner of the home page. You may have to establish your login password if you don't already have one on the District website.
The State of NM and WNMU have slightly relaxed protocols re: Covid-19. Everyone must wear a mask when indoors except when eating or drinking, regardless of vaccination status. Rotary will adopt the same requirements. If anyone is uncomfortable being with a possibly unvaccinated or not boosted person, they are invited to attend meetings via zoom. Email:

Rotarian Jim Tindal turned 93.
Program:
Arturo Barrio, Assistant Public Image Coordinator for Rotary Zones 26/27 and District 5520 Public Image Chair spoke via zoom. His topic was: "Public Image=Greater Reach." His talk about how Rotary's branding efforts are important in advancing our membership and in informing a wide audience about Rotary's work locally and around the world was interesting and informative.
Upcoming:
On February 22, 2022, the meeting will be a club assembly. In view of the Governor's and University's announcements, masks will no longer be required. Discussion will focus mainly on plans for a fund-raising Auction to be held in 2023.
The Toastmasters demo was scheduled for February 16, 2022 from 6-7 p.m. Steve Chavira has sent the Zoom link and it has been sent to all club members.
The Presidents-Elect Training Seminar (PETS) will be held virtuallyl on 2/25/22 from 1-3:30 p.m., and 2/26/22 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration (at no charge) is on-line at the District Website www.rotary5520.org. The event is open to all Rotarians and incoming club officers are especially encouraged to attend.
Rotarian Bill Harrison will be 100 on June 22 and we are hopeful that he will join our club meeting that week for a birthday celebration.
