1)Whether or not to continue with the Silver Sage Bulletin. A show of hands showed a "yes" vote, so Lucy will continue doing it.
2)Will the 8/1/23 speaker be new District Governor, Richard Haas? it was determined that a different date would be better, as the evening before should be a welcoming dinner, and the DG needs more time to talk to the board and the club on the day of his visit. Sunny Kellerman indicated that she would talk to the DG's representative about possibly rescheduling his visit.
3) Scholarships: the Board needs to decide if the scholarships will be continued, before this is brought up at the Silver High County Wide Support Services Open House on July 28. The problem is that we've had very few applications in the past couple of years, probably because the state's Opportunity Scholarship now funds all tuition and fee costs at New Mexico public institutions. That raises the question of whether there is a continuing need for the scholarship program or whether it would be better to use the money for other purposes.
RYLA will be brought up at the Open House as well. There was some discussion of making RYLA a coed experience, but Sunny Kellerman pointed out that this had been considered at the District a number of times and had been rejected each time.
4) Club's Centennial celebration: Mark Richard suggested that the planned gala be funded entirely by the club and be by invitation only to thank people for their past support. He estimated that such an arrangement might bring about 100 people and the event could be held in the Murray Hotel ballroom at a modest cost. Others argued for a more inclusive event that would be funded largely by an admission charge After some discussion, a show of hands voted "yes" for an "inclusive" open event, rather than an "exclusive" event, which would be limited to "invitees only."
I know the NM Museum of Space History Road Show was July 18, but some of Tom Bate's photos didn't get to me until yesterday. This one of Levi was just to good to pass up. He must have been so very warm wearing it and posed for lots of pictures.
