The meeting was a club assembly.
Ray said the first order of business was where we want to have future meetings. He gave three options: continue at the Bowling Center, go to the Hospital conference room, or go to HMS where certain dates are not available and we still have the problem of food. Ray asked for a vote of those who want to stay; there were no yeas. Mark Richard then asked about Q’s Bistro as another choice. After discussion, it was decided this might be a location for social events but not as a weekly meeting site. Ray then said the second option is to meet at the Hospital and then called for a vote on this option. After discussion, the vote was called for and it was unanimous for the Hospital as our new meeting place. Since everyone was in favor of meeting at the Hospital, Ray did not call for a vote on HMS.
Discussion then followed as to when we would start meeting there. Ray will speak to the CEO of the Hospital to get a beginning date firmed up, but we will plan on meeting at the Bowling Center next week. The conference room will be reserved from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, and Ray advised it would be better to get there at 11:30 am to get lunch before the Hospital staff starts   up. He asked if there were any questions; there were none.
Ray said he had forgotten his flash drive so that we could all see our Strategic Plan, which needs to be approved by the club. He said the Board had seen this plan and asked if there were any suggested changes. Peter Falley said he had sent him a list of suggested changes. Ray said he had not received them, but would check his email. Therefore, approval of the Strategic Plan will be postponed until next month. Tom Bates added that he thought Ray had done a really good job on the Plan and Peter agreed.
The next topic was fundraising. Ray said that he, Maggie Callaway, Art Thorn, Jim Callender, and Tom had met briefly to talk about fundraising. They thought of a dinner at the Bear Mountain Lodge, which the club has done previously. A wine dinner with a silent auction was part of the concept to benefit the local animal community. The idea of a dessert option was also brought up. Mark Richard thought Linda Brewer of the Bear Mountain Lodge would work with us on a lower cost for the dinner; and if we could get someone to donate the wine, that would be even better. It was also felt that the beneficiary of the fundraiser should also participate in selling tickets.
Mark said for the polio fundraiser he had an alternative suggestion. The last few years we have been doing a concert, which has been less well attended each year. So his idea of raising money is by doing an exhibition of his artwork at the Geisler Studio, 102 W. Kelly Street, and any proceeds made form selling his artwork would go to the polio program. The opening is scheduled for September 27 and the exhibition will run for a month. He has flyers and posters for the event. A suggestion for getting more exposure for Rotary and its oldest living member, Bill Harrison,
was to get an article in the Rotary magazine. Ray said he would contact the magazine to see if they were willing to publish something.
Maggie reminded everyone of the bake sale on September 13.
The meeting was adjourned at 12:50 pm.
