Niel:
1. Niel and Jim are looking for a new venue. We will meet at Wranglers again next week, April 11, and at Little Toad Creek on April 18th. Steve offered to help with the search.
2. Niel reminded all that May 6 will be the Dog/Car Wash fundraiser.
3. April 17th is the Fiber Art Exhibit at the Silco.
4. Board meeting after the regular meeting April 11th.
5. Vlad and Peter F. are looking for two additional members for the scholarship committee. Steve and Niel volunteered.
6. Art shared a message from Peter F. re: TRF. While we have reached our per capita target for donations to the Annual Fund, all
Rotarians are urged to contribute at least $25.00 to the Rotary Foundation Annual fund, which is the source of our district grants. You can give on-line to Rotary.org or send donations to TRF to our Treasurer, Maggie, OR ask Maggie to add an amount for the TRF to your quarterly club invoice.
7. Sunny announced that more than two of us have completed Grants Management Training (two is the minimum) and congratulated Maria Biondo for jumping in and participating in a GMT on Monday night.
8. Sunny also asked the club's approval to submit a nomination for the Sonny Brown Business of the Year Award to Tranquil Buzz. Club approved. The club also approved applications for HMS (Steve), the Commons (Tom) and Tour of the Gila (Steve). They will follow up on these. All nominations are due by 4/7.
9. Sunny reported that we have one RYLA application. All applications are due to Sunny or Will by 4/20 and Kathy Eaton and Sunny will interview candidates beginning 4/24. Applications must be approved by the club (following interviews) and submitted to the District by 5/1.
10. Steve Chavira announced that HMS has funds available to help low-income seniors with expenses up to $500. There is a simple application process. This is urgent-HMS has $40K for this "Compassion for Seniors" program and the program expires on 6/30/23. See Steve for more information.
Program: Aman Khan, "The India/Pakistan division and my life journey."
Aman thanked Rotary for all we do--and mentioned Rotary projects he witnessed in his home country (providing fresh water in the northern regions of Pakistan). Aman was born in New Delhi in 1941 and grew up in Pakistan. He shared photos of his family and his early home, discussed the struggle for freedom of India and the 1947 division of India and Pakistan. Aman came to the US in 1969. He's been married to Clara (who introduced him to LDS) for 24 years. They have 4 children and 13 grandchildren! This was an engaging and informative presentation with lots of history, family, heart, and amusing stories. A few nuggets of wisdom, too, including lessons from his father on the importance of education the the need to Do your best today. Life is short!"
