Raul won the individual costume award at the gala! Many thanks to the Centennial committee--the gala was a success because of the committees work.
Steve:
The Prospectors are having their annual forum at Light Hall this Thursday, November 30 from 8-4:30. Each non-profit will have 3 minutes to present their requests to local legislators.
Ray:
There will be a cello-piano fundraiser on February 17, 2024 at Light Hall at 7 p.m. All proceeds will go to Rotary and the GRMC Foundation.
Raul:
Thank you for my Roaring 20's award!
On Friday, December 1, there will be a recap of Thursday's Prospectors forum on the radio (89.1) Sunny will be assisting me.

Saturday will be the Santa Clara Christmas parade.

Romeo:

The Centennial gala was wonderful!

The Chamber of Commerce is having our Awards Banquet on December 14, and will be giving many different awards. For reservations, call me or go on-line.

Carlos thanked Romeo and his staff for all their help preparing for the gala.

 

There was a board meeting with DG Haas before the regular meeting--the picture at left shows attendees Maggie, Art, DG Richard Haas, Jim, and Peter F. The second picture shows --Jim, Peter F., Sunny, Carlos, Leslie, Steve.

 

Carlos asked Past District Governor Sunny Kellerman to introduce our speaker, District Governor Richard Haas. Sunny told us that Richard studied architecture, and has worked as an architect in Denver, San Antonio, Austin, Santa Fe and the last 28 years in Las Cruces with his own firm. Richard and his wife Susan have been married 43 years, have two children and 7 grandchildren. Richard became a Rotarian in 2010 in Las Cruces, and was involved with many projects, committees and offices.

Besides his very busy Rotary life, he maintains his architectural firm, trying to work there Mondays and Fridays, and visiting the various clubs as Governor in between.

 

The District Governor congratulated the club on its 100th anniversary. He told us that there were other clubs in District 5520 celebrating 100 years this year, including Deming, Las Cruces, Marfa, TX., Gallup, and Santa Fe. He presented the RI theme banner to Carlos for the club, and handed out RI magnetic pins, and district pins to all. He spoke to us about this year's theme of Create Hope in the World, and how we can make that theme come alive through our work in the community and beyond. He urged us to work with other organizations in making our projects successful. He also spoke about RI President Gordon McInally's commitment to addressing mental health issues in our communities and how those efforts require talking to people and learning about their problems and concerns. He also talked about Rotary opening doors for all of us by providing new opportunities for fellowship and service and how talking to one another can lead to surprising connections. He assured us that he and the District are there to be of help to our club should we need it. His sense of humor made for a compelling and entertaining presentation.
