Announcements:
The Piano Party Fundraiser on April 15th was a great success; very enjoyable, including the Sing-A-Long after the concert.
Ray received many thanks for organizing the program. Also many thanks to Maggie for arranging the use of Light Hall, and Peter F. who was the M.C. Peter F. reported that $1405.00 was collected.
The Hospital Auxiliary President will be a speaker at a later date to be presented with the check and tell what the money will be used for.
The median is being maintained by Victor Sandoval (WNMU student) for $100.00 a month.
Jim said that Sunny K. had not been able to reach Dave Chandler
(Commons Executive Director) yet. But he also said the Commons is asking for volunteers for re-packaging, etc.
Kathy said that Harry Kellerman, Sunny's husband, reported that Sunny's surgery this morning went well, and she will be staying overnight.
Kathy said she is leaving for Guatemala on April 20th for a stay of 10 days, working on the on-going water project.
Jim said the meeting for the 2023 Auction will be this afternoon at
4:30 at Kathy's house.
Jim said that the students from Silver City did well at the State National History Day competition, and will be going to the National competition in Washington, D.C.
Program:
NM Lieutenant Governor Howie Morales from the 28th District was the speaker. Lt. Governor Morales is a native New Mexican, born, raised, and educated in Silver City.
Morales mentioned some of the really good things that have been accomplished in Grant County and New Mexico. He is a firm believer in education, and he highlighted increased support for our schools. He pointed out that he is the only office-holder in the Executive Department from southern New Mexico, and he has exerted his influence whenever possible to insure that this part of the state receives an appropriate share of state resources. He pointed, in particular, to a number of infrastructure projects that have received state funding. In response to complaints from constituents, he also worked hard to eliminate the double taxation of Social Security benefits. Under new legislation, that problem will be eliminated starting on July 1 of this year.
